THEATER

THE BIG STORM COMES

A black comedy with a touch of reality.

The play is ready for its premiere. The director has made sure everything is under control to showcase the greatness of this creation. A few hours prior to the premiere, an announcement came over the news that a very serious, threatening weather front was heading their direction. Gale force winds which could  wreak havoc with their community.   The county  put the National Guard on alert and the theater staff has been briefed that their primary job might be to maintain calm.

As with any production, this play has had its ups and downs prior to the grand opening.   The expectations are high. In spite of the inclement weather forecast, the lines out front of the theater are forming. The National Guard has already dispersed in the main parts of town and they are maintaining order with all the folks in line, hurrying to get inside the building.

The weather has stalled the opening. The power is flickering making everything very difficult for the technical crew. The movie screen has descended but there is no sound! Accessing the sound/technical room are difficult due to the electronic door lock, which isn’t functioning.

Meanwhile, people are no longer kept in the lines outside as the rains begin to fall, and they are entering the theater. The staff is doing a great job keeping everyone calm and helping everyone get to their seats. The thunderstorm intensifies, and the raging wind and thunder claps can be heard inside the theater. Surprisingly, the people remain calm. They seem to set aside their egos and relate to each other on a deeper level. They are bonding together.

As the weather rages on there are those who are reflecting on their lives and one man who comes out of the closet, declaring his love for another man with the fear that this might be the last opportunity to “get real”.

The actors backstage are stressed, not from stage fright, but from concerns over everyone’s safety and well-being. If they could just continue with the play, it would at least be a diversion, but with the technical issues, they are stifled. The actors are bonding at a deeper level as well.

The actors, the audience, the crew, have all found their personal strength rising along with the wind. The are finding the courage to sing and dance in the face of peril.

Based of true events.

THE KING OF THE LIGHTHOUSE

1982. Place: Patagonia, Argentina. The Malvinas war just ended. The dictatorship remains. More than 300 marines are killed in the sinking of the General Belgrano.

Four young argentine men from different backgrounds are sent to do their military service, where they are brainwashed with the possibility that the outbreak of another war could happen in any moment. They are chosen without any military experience to be a part of a secret mission at the Stretch of Magellan.

They will be sent to an abandoned lighthouse located very close from the Malvinas Islands and just 10 kilometers away from the Chilean’s limits. A sub official tormented by his past is the only company that they will have in this desolate place.
